The College of Media Hosts a Seminar on “Legal Provisions Protecting Journalists in Iraqi Legislation

Under the direct supervision of the Dean of the College of Media, Prof. Maad Asi Ali, the College organized a seminar titled “Legal Provisions Protecting Journalists in Iraqi Legislation.” The seminar was led by Dr. Hatem Jassam Mohammed, Head of the Radio and Television Department, and Ms. Dina Nizam Abdul-Ghani, Head of the Legal Unit.

The seminar explored the legal framework governing the work of journalists in Iraq, including the legislation ensuring their protection during their duties and the legal challenges they face amidst media developments. The speakers also discussed the role of legal and media institutions in creating a safe environment for journalism and emphasized the importance of raising awareness about journalists' rights and responsibilities under the law.

The Dean, Prof. Maad Asi Ali, contributed to the discussion by highlighting the necessity of establishing a legal environment that protects journalists and ensures freedom of expression within constitutional boundaries. He underscored the vital role academic institutions play in promoting legal awareness among media professionals and equipping them to understand their rights and obligations, ultimately contributing to the advancement of the media profession in Iraq.
